The Peak District,Matlock Bath to Chatsworth House
Today I visited Matlock Bath walking to Lumsdale near Matlock and then getting a bus to Chatsworth House. This is Matlock Bath on the River Derwent. It is a small town well known for its cable cars leading across the river to the Heights of Abraham and Gulliver's Kingdom theme park.
The very small cable cars
Lumsdale is a small valley near Matlock with several waterfalls and the old ruins of long deserted water mills. It is often very empty and quite spooky around here.

The stables which are now restaurants and shops

Leicester University Botanic Gardens
The Leicester University botanic Gardens are situated on London Road about 3 miles left of the railway station and near the racecourse. Admission is free.
The water gardenThere are a few old houses in the gardens. This is the knoll.
This is Hastings House and was built in 1902
The spring crocus
There are also several glasshouses which include this one with spring bulbs
And the tropical one with this bird of paradise plant
All in all the gardens are a very pleasant surprise and as good if not better than nearly all the ones in the peak district with the exception of Chatsworth.
